CISO Readiness Snapshot

One question every growing company eventually faces

At some point security stops being something an engineer or IT manager can handle on the side. Customers start sending questionnaires, an auditor needs a named owner, cyber insurance asks for controls you are not sure you have, and nobody is clearly accountable when something goes wrong at 2am.

The hard part is knowing when that point has arrived — and what kind of security leadership actually fits. Hiring a full-time CISO too early is an expensive mistake. Waiting too long is a different one.

The CISO Readiness Snapshot gives you a structured way to decide. It scores you across four areas:

• Accountability — who owns security, and whether leadership and the board ever see it
• Obligations — the customer, regulatory and insurance requirements actually in play
• Operating maturity — incident response, vulnerability management, access reviews, vendor risk and training
• Capacity — whether anyone has the time, coverage and roadmap to keep security moving

The scoring key resolves to one of three answers: you need a full-time CISO, you need a fractional CISO, or you do not need one yet — with what to do next in each case.
